Plum Creek Public Workshops

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners is sponsoring a series of public workshops to solicit public input regarding Plum Creek Timber Company’s “Envision Alachua” Sector Plan.  If approved, the sector plan would allow for a major development consisting of 10,500 residential units and 15.5 million square feet of non-residential development in the eastern area of the County.  Currently, the area is designated for Rural/agricultural use.  

The following workshop dates have been set:

·         September 2, 2014- from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hawthorne High School auditorium (21403 SE 69th Avenue, Hawthorne)
Topic: General Overview

·         September 4, 2014- from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Eastside High School auditorium (1201 SE 43rd Street, East Gainesville)
Topic: General Overview

·         September 16, 2014- begins at 5 pm at Alachua County Administration Building (12 SE 1st Street, Second Floor, Room 209, Downtown Gainesville)
Topic: Natural Resources

·         September 22, 2014- begins at 5 pm at Alachua County Administration Building (12 SE 1st Street, Second Floor, Room 209, Downtown Gainesville)
Topic: Transportation/Economic Development

The purpose of these workshops is to inform the public of the Plan and to solicit public input prior to former public hearings that will take place at a future date.  County staff will make a presentation regarding the current status of the project and the preliminary staff report. There will be a public comment period. Each person wishing to speak will have three minutes.  

The Envision Alachua Sector Plan Application is posted on the County’s website (click to view).

The Preliminary Staff Report is expected be posted on the Growth Management website no later than August 29, 2014.
