September Environmental Horticulture Programs

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Environmental Horticulture Programs for September, 2014. These programs are being offered by Wendy Wilber, Environmental Horticulture Agent, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 NE 39 Avenue, Gainesville) unless otherwise indicated.

Florida-Friendly™ Landscape Tour – September 20, from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.
beginning at the Thelma Boltin Center (516 NE 2 Avenue, Gainesville). Parking is limited; carpooling/cycling/walking is encouraged.

The Alachua County Master Gardeners will be offering a tour of Florida-Friendly™ Landscapes in the Historic Duckpond area. These yards exemplify water conservation and environmentally friendly landscaping practices. The event starts at the Thelma Boltin Center with a presentation on Florida-Friendly™ Pollinator Plants.

Participants will leave for tours of local landscapes (map will be provided). These landscape sites will have Alachua County Master Gardener volunteers as guides.

The tour is free. Pre-register at least 3 days prior to the tour by calling 352-337-6209 (voice mail).

Vegetable Gardening in Raised Beds – September 23, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Learn what crops to grow in the fall garden and about the efficient technique of growing vegetables in raised beds.

Edible Landscaping – September 27, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Living Faith Fellowship Church (5510 NW 39 Avenue, Gainesville)

Learn how to incorporate vegetables and fruit trees for a more sustainable landscape.

There is no cost to attend these classes, space is limited; pre-register at least 3 days prior to class by calling 352-337-6209 (voice mail).
