Animal Services Director Hired

ALACHUA COUNTY - Alachua County has hired David Flagler as the new Animal Services Director.  Mr. Flagler comes to the County with 24 years of animal service experience.  He is married with grown children and an Eagle Scout.  His starting salary is $79,676.36.

His career began as an Animal Control Field Supervisor and then Division Manager in Multnomah County, Oregon.  He went on to serve as Animal Services Director in Fairfax County, Virginia, Salt Lake City Utah, and Fulton County Georgia.  He also served as the PetWhere Director for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).  While serving in Salt Lake City he was named, "Policy Maker of the Year" for his efforts in rewriting the Salt Lake County Animal Control Ordinance.

Mr. Flagler's most recent position was Division Chief, Jacksonville Animal Care, and Control. 

Alachua County Public Works Director Richard Hedrick, in speaking of the hire, said, "We are delighted to have someone of Mr. Flagler's caliber join the County.  His wealth of experience will be beneficial in leading this division as it provides these important services.  His knowledge of budgeting and data management will be particularly important as we face the uncertain fiscal challenges ahead."
