Update #1 Tropical Storm Fay

5:50 p.m.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Fay has taken a westerly jog which may result in a course which travels up the Gulf of Mexico, parallel to the west coast of Florida. Landfall could potentially be due west of Gainesville.  This would put Gainesville on the typically wetter, windier, right side of the storm.  Tropical storm winds could impact Gainesville as early as the evening of Tuesday Aug.19th. 

Alachua County Public Schools will open tomorrow, Aug. 18th, as scheduled.  School Board administration will make any closing announcements in the future if warranted.

To keep citizens informed, the Alachua County 311 Information Line has been activated.  Call 311 for the most current information on Tropical Storm Fay.
