ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The center of Tropical Storm Fay has passed through central Alachua County and is now just to the west of Gainesville.  The lighter winds that we have experienced over the last several hours as a result are expected to give way to increased winds speeds of up to 20 mph and 2 more inches of rain as the rain bands on the east side of the storm pass over.  Alachua County has experienced 2-4 inches of rain so far and flooding remains a concern.  The threat of tornadoes will remain throughout the duration of the storm.

GRU is experiencing numerous electric system outages due to the storm.  Customers should call 352-334-2871 to report outages.  The system will log your phone number and address automatically.  One phone call is sufficient.  GRU will respond to outages until wind speeds make repair work unsafe.  After wind speeds drop, GRU will resume restoration work as soon as possible.

Alachua County continues to shelter residents in their two shelters. Click here for an interactive map showing open shelters.  Shelter locations are as follows:

Rawlings Elementary School - General Population Shelter
3500 NE 15th St.
Gainesville, FL 32906

Westwood Middle School - Special Medical Needs Shelter
3215 NW 15th Ave.
Gainesville, FL 32605

The Alachua County Emergency Operations Center remains activated and continues to monitor the storm.  Alachua County's 311 information line remains open for rumor control and up-to-date information on Tropical Storm Fay.
