Commission Proclaims “Steve Carr Day” in Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY — The Board of County Commissioners proclaimed June 27, 2006, as “Steve Carr Day” in Alachua County, during their regular meeting that day. Steve Carr is retiring from his position as Assistant Clerk and Finance Director of Alachua County in the Alachua County Clerk of the Court’s Office after serving the County for 30 years.

Steve graduated from the University of Florida with an MBA and earned his CPA certificate in 1981. Steve has worked in governmental accounting for 32 years, including the 30 years he put in for Alachua County.

Steve’s involvements with financial organizations include more than 22 years of active involvement in the Florida Government Finance Officers Association (FGFOA). Steve was the second person in the FGFOA’s finance officer’s certification program to be distinguished as a Certified Government Finance Officer after the program began in 1980. Steve served on the FGFOA Board of Directors from 1991 to 1998 and has chaired a number of FGFOA committees, including the Legislative Committee and the Career Development Committee.

Steve has served on the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Special Review Committee, as a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report reviewer, 1985 to 1992.

In addition to serving on Boards and Committees, Steve has been a speaker for many associations, including the Florida Association of Court Clerks and Comptrollers.

During Steve’s service, the Clerk’s Office and the County received the “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” for Alachua County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for 23 consecutive years and the “Outstanding Achievement in Popular Reporting” for nine consecutive years.

In addition to these award winning reports, Steve has also prepared many other reports for Alachua County, including the Financial Trends Monitoring Report, to help citizens understand more about the County’s finances.
