ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Utility companies serving Alachua County customers are reporting hundreds of electricity outages across the County due to Tropical Storm Fay.

GRU customers should call 352-334-2871 to report outages.  The system will log your phone number and address automatically.  One phone call is sufficient.  GRU will respond to outages until wind speeds make repair work unsafe.  After wind speeds drop, GRU will resume restoration work as soon as possible.

Progress Energy customers should call 1-800-228- 8485 to report outages using the company's automated outage-reporting system.

Clay Electric customers should call their toll free outage reporting line 1-888-434-9844 to report an outage.

Florida Power and Light customers should contact FPL to report the outage through FPL's automated system 1-800-4-OUTAGE.

Residents are advised to stay away from downed power lines and treat all power lines as if they are energized and dangerous.  Stay clear of water puddles near downed power lines and do not touch any object that is in contact with a power line such as a tree limb, fence, debris, or even an injured person. Do not attempt to make repairs to electric utility equipment or service lines.  If operating a portable generator, do not connect it to your house wiring or electrical receptacles and always follow the operating and safety instructions provided by the manufacturer. Do not attempt to refuel a portable generator when it is running.
