9:45 a.m.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - There will be a special meeting of the Alachua County Commission on Tuesday November 18, 2008 to swear-in re-elected Commissioners Mike Byerly, Paula M. DeLaney, and Rodney J. Long.  The meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. in room 209 of the Alachua County Administration Building located at 12 SE 1st Street, Gainesville, Fl.  The public is encouraged to attend.

Also that day, immediately following the Commission swearing-in, Commissioner Long will be sworn in as the incoming president of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC).  The unexpected appointment is a result of FAC President and Suwannee County Commissioner Randy Hatch not being re-elected on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, Commissioner Long will assume the role of Interim President. He will remain in this position until elections are held at the FAC Annual Conference in June 2009.

"Randy's commitment to FAC has been unparalleled and his tenacity in representing counties and home rule has been exemplary." Commissioner Long said in speaking of the former president.  "I will miss the unique and honest approach he took when working legislation and FAC policy.  However, he has assured me that his guidance and advice is never more than a phone call away and for that I am grateful."
