ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Victim Services & Rape Crisis Center is sponsoring the following events as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (April):

  • "Respect Your Date Contest" March 30th thru April 3rd at Alachua County high schools
Victim Advocates will be visiting seven Alachua County public high schools promoting awareness and prevention in the areas of sexual and dating violence.
  • "White Bandana Project" April 1st and April 8th at the Downtown Farmer's Market
Victim Advocates will be tabling at the Downtown Farmer’s Market (downtown Gainesville) to raise awareness about sexual harassment and abuse that female migrant farm workers experience. People can decorate white bandanas to show support for female migrant farm workers.
  • "Denim Day" April 22nd
The community is encouraged to wear denim as way to support work done to challenge stereotypes and myths about sexual violence. Denim Day was conceived after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a conviction on a rape case saying that the victim wore tight jeans.
