SYSTERN Rain Barrel Sale

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Public Works Department, Office of Waste Alternatives invites citizens to its one-day-only SYSTERN Rain Barrel distribution event on Saturday, May 23, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Home Depot (5150 NW 13th Street, Gainesville).

The SYSTERN Rain Barrel, by Norseman Plastics will be available to area residents on a first come, first serve basis. The rain barrels cost $45.00, tax included (cash or checks only).

"This spring, take a step towards reducing your carbon footprint", said Sally Palmi, Waste Alternatives Manager, "In the United States alone, outdoor water use can makeup between 25% to 58% of the overall domestic water demand.  Rainwater harvesting can drastically reduce this demand preserving municipal water supply for potable drinking water while serving as a compliment to your gardening and backyard composting needs.  As global water supplies diminish, rainwater harvesting will become a crucial water conservation practice.  The SYSTERN Rain Barrel also helps reduce water pollution and soil erosion within our community."
