Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center Seeks Volunteers

Thursday, September 11, 2014 9:35 AM

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Victim Services & Rape Crisis Center is seeking caring and compassionate citizens looking to make a difference in the lives of individuals hurt by crime.

Volunteers serve as hotline counselors; answering the agency’s phone lines while the office is closed (nights and weekends). In preparation for their role as hotline counselor, participants will receive 40 hours of training. This begins with an online course provided by the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence and continues with one-on-one sessions and interactive role plays facilitated by the agency’s staff.

When describing the unique work of a hotline counselor, Sexual Assault Program Manager, Laura Kalt, said “Establishing connection with a caring and non-judgmental supporter can be the biggest catalyst for healing for many trauma survivors. Hotline counselors have the opportunity to become a part of this healing process.”

Applications are available on the agency’s website.

For more information, contact Laura Kalt at 352-264-6765.
