County Launches LED Lighting Initiative

Friday, November 7, 2014 3:15 PM
ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Energy Management Team has launched its LED initiative, which is replacing current lighting in County parking lots with energy efficient LED lights. The team recently upgraded the lights at the Health Department and Community Support Services building (218 SE 24th Street, Gainesville), and retrofitted existing 400 watt Metal Halide fixtures with 49 LED lighting conversions. The old bulbs were at the end of their effective service life and frequently failing.

The new fixtures will save approximately $10,000 annually in energy costs, and have a life expectancy of 10 years or more. In addition, the County will realize a significant deferred maintenance savings with the elimination of labor and material required to replace the less efficient lamps.
These lighting upgrades are consistent with recommendations made in the Energy Initiative Report included in the Energy Conservation Strategies Commission (ECSC) Report submitted to the Alachua County Commission.
