ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – The Florida Department of Health in Alachua County and The Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) announce the opening of the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) WIC Clinic Market on Friday, April 22, 2016. The market, which takes place in the main parking area of the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County (224 SE 24th St, Gainesville), operates on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. FMNP WIC Clinic Market allows WIC participants and the general public to have access to locally grown, farm-fresh produce.

“We feel that having the Farmers’ Market here will enhance the health of nutritionally at-risk residents. It also promotes the use of farmers’ market by WIC families and low-income residents, encourages expanded and diversified fruit and vegetable production here in Alachua County, and promotes farmers’ markets as a component of sustainable, quality communities.” states Alachua County WIC Program Vendor Manager Candi Morris.

The market is open to all Alachua County residents. Customers can purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables using either their WIC/Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons or cash.
