Veteran Resource and Homeless Veteran Stand Down

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Veteran Services is hosting and collaborating with multiple area agencies to offer resources and services at the annual "Veteran Resource and Homeless Veteran Stand Down." The event is on National POW/MIA Day, September 16, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center (1028 NE 14th St., Gainesville). Veterans are asked to provide proof of veteran status.

This year’s event includes a POW/MIA Day Ceremony in honor of the American service members who never returned home. Area Veterans are welcome and will have access to resources and services. Services include employment assistance, housing assistance, VA medical enrollment, VA claims assistance, clothing resources, legal services, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, previously known as food stamps) information, medical information, social services and more.

Alachua County Veteran Services Director Kim Smith stated, “We are pleased to welcome area veterans to this event to honor POW/MIA Day, and so they may more easily access many community resources all in one place.” She continued, “They will have an opportunity to meet with multiple veteran organizations and have comradery with others who have served our nation.”
