ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The following Solid Waste facilities and services will be, or have the potential to be, affected by Hurricane Matthew.

Curbside Collection:

All solid waste services for Alachua County residents will be temporarily suspended beginning Friday, October 7, 2016. Services will resume once the strong winds subside and the roadways are deemed safe for passage. Collection of household garbage and recycling is anticipated to resume on Monday, October 10, beginning with any customer whose service was interrupted due to the storm, including subscription customers. Temporary delays may continue to be experienced depending on the status of the roadways.

Solid Waste Facilities (Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Rural Collection Centers):

All solid waste facilities, including the Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station and the five Rural Collection Centers, will be closed on Friday, October 7th, 2016. These facilities will reopen pending the completion of storm damage assessments and it is deemed safe for the public. Updates concerning the reopening of these facilities will be released Saturday morning.

Yard waste and storm debris:

Substantial amounts of yard waste and storm debris are possible. Collection of these materials will be done following the completion of a damage assessment conducted by Alachua County and contracted vendors.  Additional vehicles and personnel have been secured for the collection of the storm debris to ensure cleanup is completed as quickly as possible. Contractors will collect yard waste and storm debris based on the results of the damage assessment, meaning that normal collection day routes may not be followed. Alachua County is requesting patience as we work to clean up the debris and damage. The County will provide regular updates on storm debris collection schedules and areas of completion.
