ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – The League of Women Voters of Alachua County/Gainesville and the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department invite the public to attend a water forum titled “The Status and Future of our Water Supply” on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Oak Hammock (5100 SW 25th Blvd., Gainesville).

“The goal of this event is for the public to have an opportunity to discuss their concerns about our future water supplies with water managers,” said Stacie Greco, Alachua County Environmental Protection Department Water Conservation Coordinator. Kathleen McKee, Research Coordinator at the UF Water Institute shared, “This is a rare event in which citizens will be able to speak with high level water managers such as the Director of the Division of Water Supply Management Supply with the St Johns River Water Management District.”

There will be presentations by UF faculty about aquifers and groundwater, by Alachua County EPD about water permitting, and by Water Management Districts about trends in groundwater in North Florida.  Citizens will have the opportunity to have their questions answered during a panel discussion following presentations by regional water experts.
