Correction: City of Hawthorne Boil Water Notice

This press release put out at the request of the Alachua County Health Department.

 

Please read these corrections to the original press release (below).

 

The City of Hawthorne is issuing Precautionary Boil Water Notice effective this Thursday morning at 1 a.m. as the Public Works Department switches to a new water supply tank.  This work will result in a loss of pressure until 5 a.m. when pressure will be restored.

 

The City of Hawthorne will rescind this precautionary boil water notice upon receipt of satisfactory bacteriological sampling results.  Residents and customers who have questions regarding this issue should call 352-481-2432.

 

This Precautionary Boiled Water Notice will remain in effect until bacteriological testing demonstrates that there is no presence of bacteriological contaminates.  The City of Hawthorne anticipates this Notice will be rescinded by this Friday, July 23rd, in the afternoon.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Residents Served by City of Hawthorne Public Water System.

 

The City of Hawthorne is issuing Precautionary Boil Water Notice effective this Wednesday morning at 12 a.m. as the Public Works Department switches to a new water supply tank.  This work will result in a loss of pressure until 5 a.m. when pressure will be restored.

 

This Precautionary Boil Water Notice applies to all City of Hawthorne Public Water System residents and customers.

 

The City of Hawthorne will be flushing the distribution system and collecting samples to determine the absence of any bacteriological impurities.

 

As a precaution, residents and customers of the City of Hawthorne Public Water System should use the one of the following strategies to ensure safe drinking water:

 

·         Boil the water before use, holding it in a rolling boil for one minute.

 

·          Disinfect it by adding 8 drops (1/8 teaspoon) of plain unscented household bleach per gallon of water, and then let it stand for 30 minutes.  If the water is cloudy after 30 minutes, repeat the procedure.

 

·          Use bottled water for drinking.

 

The City of Hawthorne will rescind this precautionary boil water notice upon receipt of satisfactory bacteriological sampling results.  Residents and customers who have questions regarding this issue should call 352-481-6111.
