ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - In order to keep the public well informed on important zoning, land-use and development review issues, Alachua County is augmenting its process of advertising these events. In addition to legally required efforts, the County will begin sending press releases as well as posting on Facebook, Twitter, the County Website, the County newsletter, and on local government access channel 12.

Items for the March 21, 2012 Planning Commission

A public hearing for a small scale land use amendment (CPA-02-12) from Commercial to Institutional/Medical land use at 3921/4001 SW 13th Street will take place before the Alachua County Planning Commission on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 beginning at 6 pm.  The hearing will be held in Room 209 of the County Administration Building.  This is the first of two public hearings for this item, which is being sought by Shands Teaching Hospital and Clinics, Inc. to allow a substance abuse and eating disorder treatment facility at this site, a former motel (Residence Inn) on SW 13th Street near Williston Road.  A concurrent request to rezone this property (ZOM-01-12) from ‘BH’ (Business/Highway oriented services) district to ‘HM’ (Hospital/Medical) district is also being sought and is contingent upon passage of the small scale land use amendment.  Public participation in the hearing process is encouraged.
