October Agriculture & Natural Resources Programs

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Cooperative Extension Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture & Natural Resources Programs for October, 2012. These programs are offered by Barton Wilder, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent.  The programs will be held at the Alachua County Cooperative Extension Office (2800 NE 39 Avenue, Gainesville).

Ag Management Workshop – October 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Topics include: agricultural law, farm liability, crop insurance and farm business plans.  Cindy Sanders, Director/Livestock Agent, Alachua County Cooperative Extension, will also be presenting.

Registration fee is $5.00 (includes meal).

Private Applicator – October 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This workshop is designed to provide training in practices related to Private Applicator Agricultural Pest Control License for anyone working in the agricultural industry.  CORE Exam & Private Applicator Exam will be offered at the end of their session.

3 CORE & 3 Private Applicator CEUs will be offered, CCAs will be available.

Full day registration fee $40.00 (includes books & lunch), $10.00 (no books), half day registration fee $5.00 (no lunch).

Worker Protection Standard: Train the Trainer Workshop – October 25, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

This workshop will include: Training in all major aspects of Worker Protection Standards (WPS), WPS Train the Trainer materials, handouts of educational material, and Florida Department of Agriculture Inspector will be present to answer questions on WPS enforcement & compliance.

3 Private Applicator and Ag Row Crop CEUs will be available.

There will be a $5.00 registration fee.

Florida Master Naturalist Wetlands Series – October 25 through November 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (evening classes) and tentative field trips dates – November 3, November 10 and November 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Wetland Module provides instruction on the general ecology, habitats, vegetation types, wildlife, and conservation issues of Freshwater Wetlands in Florida – marshes, swamps and permanent wetlands (lakes, rivers, springs and streams).

Registration fee is $225.00.  Class size is limited to 15 participants.
