Precautionary Boil Water Notice

Thursday, May 31, 2007 1:00 AM

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fl. - Routine water sampling of the Santa Fe Hills water system has disclosed bacteriological contamination.  A precautionary boiled water notice is in effect until further notice for customers utilizing the Santa Fe Hills central water system.  Residents of Santa Fe Hills served by the central water supply should use one of the following strategies to ensure safe drinking water:

  • Boil the water before use, holding it in a rolling boil for one minute.
  • Disinfect it by adding 8 drops (1/8 teaspoon) of plain unscented household bleach per gallon of water, and then let it stand for 30 minutes.  If the water is cloudy after 30 minutes, repeat the procedure.
  • Use bottled water for drinking
