October Livestock Programs

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Cooperative Extension Office is pleased to announce the following Livestock Programs for October, 2012.  These programs will be conducted by Cindy Sanders, Director/Livestock Agent.  The programs will be held at the Alachua County Cooperative Extension Office (2800 NE 39th Avenue, Gainesville).

Ag Management Workshop – Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at 6 p.m.

Topics include: agricultural law, farm liability, crop insurance and farm business plans.

Registration fee is $5.00 (includes meal).

Living on a Few Acres (12 part series) - This is a new program for 2012, and is held on the third Thursday of each month. The next class of the series is entitled “Equine Management,” on Thursday, October 18, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Topics include: basic equine nutrition & pasture management.

This monthly program is designed as an introduction to basic production techniques on a wide variety of topics from pasture management and livestock production to growing vegetables and alternative enterprises. The program is designed to provide information to individuals interested in beginning or improving a small scale agricultural operation.

Cost to attend is $10.00 for individuals and $15.00 for couples for entire series (notebook & materials provided).  There will be a meal served for this class only.
