ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – Alachua County is seeking stakeholder input on the draft Alachua County Hunting Business Plan. The Hunting Business Plan is scheduled for consideration by the Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) during the November 13, 2012, Regular Public Hearing, which begins at 5 p.m., in the Jack Durrance Auditorium in the County Administration Building (12 SE 1st Street, Gainesville, room 209).

The County is encouraging interested persons to review the Hunting Business Plan Draft, and visit the Alachua County Forever website to send comments to the Program via the email link. They may also attend the BoCC’s meeting in November.

In developing the plan, County staff met with the State of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, numerous hunters, environmental groups, County Advisory Boards and concerned stakeholders.

In speaking of the Hunting Business Plan, Alachua County Forever Program Supervisor Ramesh Buch said, "Staff’s goal for the hunting business plan is to provide the Board and the public facts, principles and recommendations that will guide hunting practices on Alachua County Forever properties."

This plan is the latest is the series produced by the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department for property acquired and managed by the Alachua County Forever Program. These include the adopted Timber Harvesting Business Plan and the Cattle Grazing Business Plan. The business plans are designed to inform the public discussion concerning these specific activities on these preserves. When adopted by the Board, these plans guide the future handing of these activities by staff and the ways in which they are made available to the public.
