November Livestock Programs

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Cooperative Extension Office is pleased to announce the following Livestock Programs for November, 2012.  These programs will be conducted by Cindy Sanders, Director/Livestock Agent.  The programs will be held at the Alachua County Cooperative Extension Office (2800 NE 39th Avenue, Gainesville), unless otherwise indicated.

Living on a Few Acres (12 part series) - This is a new program for 2012, and will be held on the third Thursday of each month. The next class of the series is entitled “Backyard Flock: Growing Poultry” on Thursday, November 15, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Information discussed will be on breeds, nutrition, health and housing.

This monthly program is designed as an introduction to basic production techniques on a wide variety of topics from pasture management and livestock production to growing vegetables and alternative enterprises. The program is designed to provide information to individuals interested in beginning or improving a small scale agricultural operation.

Cost to attend is $10.00 for individuals and $15.00 for couples for entire series (notebook & materials provided).

Beef Cattle Palpation Workshop – November 15, and 16, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at the UF Beef Teaching Unit (3301 SW 23 Terrace, Gainesville)

Topics and discussion include: reproduction basics, calving difficulty, breeding season management and palpation.

Registration fee is $45.00 (includes lunch on Friday & supplies).  Class is limited to the first 15 participants.
