Annual Veterans Day Celebration

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - Alachua County Veterans Services and the veteran community will hold their Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, beginning at 9:30 a.m., at Veterans Memorial Park (formerly named Kanapaha Veterans Memorial Park, on the corner of SW 75th St. and SW 41st Pl., Gainesville). This event is open to the public. Citizens are advised to bring their own lawn chairs to sit on.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., residents can visit the multiple organizational booths and enjoy music. At 10:15 a.m., the United States Air Force’s Military Working Dog Demonstration will begin. At 11 a.m., Palatka Skydive will deliver the American Flag, and the formal program will occur. After the formal program, the celebration continues with a BBQ sponsored by the Veterans Memorial Committee, with proceeds going to the Gainesville High School ROTC and the Veterans Memorial Fund. Live music will be performed by the Justin Lee Band. They will play music of the Vietnam era (sponsored by 10Can Inc.). 

Alachua County Veterans Services Director Kim Smith said, “This event will be a wonderful celebration with 50 years of remembrance honoring our Vietnam Veterans.”
