Tropical Depression Number Nine Update

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - At 11 a.m., today, August 30, 2016, the center of Tropical Depression #9 was about 550 miles southwest of Jacksonville, Florida, with winds of 35 mph. Movement was to the west at 7 mph. A turn toward the northwest is expected later today, followed by a turn toward the north-northwest tonight. A turn toward the north-northeast is expected on Wednesday, August 31.

Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm today. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect as of 11 a.m. today.

Forecast models are in better agreement on the storm taking a more northeast track as it moves across the northeast Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday and Thursday.
