SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent Checks

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL- Alachua County Fire Rescue has received numerous calls from citizens across the United States who have received fraudulent checks bearing the department’s name. Anyone receiving a check from “Alachua County Fire Rescue” should consider the check fraudulent and notify the Alachua County Finance & Accounting Department at 352-374-3605.

The checks arrive via the United States Postal Service and appear to be legitimate. Often, the package containing the check will be sent using the USPS’s “Priority Mail 2-Day” service and have a valid tracking number. It has been noted that the return address listed for Alachua County Fire Rescue on the envelop and the business address on the check do not match. 

Bank of America has been notified of this scam and will not honor checks that meet the description provided.
