Community Reuse & Recycle Day

The Alachua County Solid Waste & Resource Recovery Department, in collaboration with the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo, invites residents to participate in the Community Reuse & Recycle Day.

The free event will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Santa Fe College Northwest Campus (in the Construction Institute Parking Lot 8 on North Road) across from the gym).

Nonprofit organizations will be on-site to receive clothing in wearable condition (no dirty or damaged items), nonperishable food (no expired or open items), housewares in usable condition, supplies for school, offices or art, and household hazardous waste (such as paint, chemicals, old electronics, etc.) for recycling or proper disposal. Household garbage, general recycling, damaged/soiled items, and other materials unsuitable for donation will not be accepted.

In honor of Earth Day, and in conjunction with the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo’s Party for the Planet, donors will receive a discount voucher for same-day zoo admission (while supplies last). The zoo will have special events, food trucks, and informational tabling that day.

Volunteers will help unload and collect donations for local non-profits, including Haven Attic Resale Store, Santa Fe College Saints Share Wear, Santa Fe College Saints Food Share, and Tools for Schools. Alachua County staff will also be on-site to collect household hazardous waste.

“We make it convenient and easy to drive-thru and drop off donation items and household hazardous waste at this popular annual event,” said Alanna Carinio, the county’s Office of Waste Alternatives’ public education program coordinator. “Donations support neighbors right here in our own community, protect valuable resources, encourage reuse, and reduce what we send to the landfill.”
