​​​ ​Veterans Treatment Court is a voluntary, treatment–based, diversion court program serving military veterans with mental health or substance use disorder diagnoses charged with certain misdemeanor and felony crimes. The Veterans Treatment Court program is modeled on the fundamental key components nationally recognized for Drug Courts. It integrates court and community supervision with focused medical, substance abuse and mental health service programs provided through the Veterans Administration.

Eligibility
Eligibility

  • Eligibility requires the prospective participant be a U.S. military veteran, a member of the active or reserve United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Coast Guard; a member of the Florida National Guard; a current or former contractor for the United States Department of Defense; or a current or former military member of a foreign allied country who have been charged with a criminal offense.
  • The Veterans Justice Outreach Coordinator will verify veteran’s eligibility. Some charges are not eligible for Veterans Treatment Court participation. Participation in the Veterans Treatment Court is voluntary.
  • The State Attorney’s office will review the veteran’s charges and agree to the veteran’s participation.
  • The prospective participant must reside at a distance that allows check-ins and program requirements to be fulfilled.
  • If eligible and referred, the veteran will have the opportunity to accept or decline participation

Services Provided

Participants access identified treatment, counseling, supportive housing, and other services. The services are contingent upon the veteran’s specific needs and treatment recommendations. Services are provided by local providers including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), if prospective participant qualifies for services at VA facilities.​​
