Local Food

In February 2013, Alachua County celebrated the first annual Local Food Week. This series of community events took place in farmers markets, film festivals, workshops and farm tours attracting over 2,000 attendees. Local Food, is not just about eating healthy; it represents an opportunity for more sustainable farm practices, new entrepreneurship and social empowerment. Alachua County wants everyone to help us grow our local food economy.

Goals for Local Food Week: Connecting citizens, entrepreneurs and like-minded organizations in the community to work together to maximize local foods impact and benefit. Increase awareness and discussion of local food themes in our community by engaging nontraditional groups on the issues. Increase public education about the topic.
