The Alachua County Commission will conduct their Regular Meeting, and their Regular Public Hearing on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. The Regular Meeting begins at 9 a.m., and the Public Hearing begins at 5 p.m. Both meetings are in the Jack Durrance Auditorium (Room 209), located on the second floor of the Alachua County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, downtown Gainesville).
The Regular Meeting includes a discussion of the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan Update, including draft revisions to policies in two areas including Protection of Water and Natural Resources, and Transportation Mobility policies and maps.
Regarding Protection of Water and Natural Resources, the overall goal of the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan is to conserve, manage, and restore or enhance the natural resources of Alachua County to ensure long-term environmental quality for the future. Staff will present draft revisions to policies related to water conservation, landscaping, surface waters, stormwater, groundwater and springs, wetland protection, permanent protection of conservation areas, air quality, tree protection and mitigation, open space, and land conservation.
Regarding Transportation Mobility, the overall goal of the Alachua County Comprehensive Plan is to establish a multi-modal transportation system that provides mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, motorized vehicle uses, users of rail and aviation facilities, and is sensitive to the cultural and environmental amenities of Alachua County. Staff will present draft policy revisions and updates to address changes in state statute relating to transportation concurrency in urban and rural areas, and policies related to electric vehicles, transportation system safety aimed at reducing crashes and transportation-related fatalities, updates to transportation projects listed in the Capital Improvements Element of the Plan, and updates to the Transportation Mobility Element map series.
