The Alachua County Commission is seeking poets interested in being the Alachua County Poet Laureate. At the January 8, 2019 County Commission Regular Meeting, the Commission asked the Alachua County Arts Council to develop a method for selection of a poet laureate for the County. The Arts Council created the Call to Artists (CTA) for those interested in applying for the poet laureate. This CTA is under the County’s Public Arts Program. The revised deadline for the CTA submissions is 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.
The CTA states that the Alachua County Poet Laureate should:
- Contribute to the civic pride, tourism, and economic development of the community
- Enhance the climate for artistic creativity in the community
- Enhance the community’s recognition as a cultural center

The packet can also be picked up at the Alachua County Procurement office on the third floor of the Alachua County Administration Building (12 S.E. 1st Street, Gainesville).
CTA information and applications are also available on the DemandStar website. Registration is free but includes a charge for each bid package ordered (.05 per page and $5.00 handling plus shipping).
