The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners, the Office of Waste Alternatives, and the Florida Museum of Natural History are hosting the 20th annual Trashformations Recycled Art Show and Competition. This judged student art show helps expand recycling awareness and involvement. The competition begins at 6 p.m. on November 30, 2018, at the Florida Museum of Natural History (in the University of Florida Cultural Plaza, SW 34th Street and Hull Road, Gainesville). The Trashformations exhibit is free and open to the public.
“Did you know the average Alachua County resident creates over four pounds of garbage every single day,” asked Waste Alternatives Specialist Alex Bryan. “Thanks to Alachua County’s young talented and creative minds, some of those items are making their way out of the trash and into works of art at the Florida Museum of Natural History.”
All artwork entered in the contest must be comprised of 70% or more recycled/recyclable/reused materials. Cash prizes will be awarded for winning entries in middle school, high school, and college categories.
Participating artists are asked to enter the competition online on the Trashformations website by November 23, by 5 p.m. There will be a special awards ceremony and reception for all participating students, their families, and teachers after the judging is complete.
