9-29-22 9 a.m. Tropical Storm Ian Update – Improving Storm Conditions for Alachua County

Alachua County is pleased to report that we are in good shape as the path of now Tropical Storm Ian shifted dramatically to the east overnight. However, our hearts go out to Florida residents who continue to deal with the destructive impacts of this storm.

Alachua County Fire Rescue is currently preparing to send people and multiple assets to assist those in high-impact areas to the south.

We want to remind residents to exercise caution because current wind conditions can still be dangerous. We remain under a Tropical Storm Watch due to the reach of the storm’s winds. Alachua County is currently experiencing sustained winds of up to 20 to 30 mph, and tropical storm force wind gusts from 45 to 55 mph are possible through Friday morning. The flood watch is canceled. The County is forecast to receive ½ to 1 inch of rain.

The County is deactivating shelters and is no longer accepting new shelter residents.

Alachua County’s 311 Critical Information Line will be deactivated at 5 p.m. today.
