Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center is starting a support group specific to adults who were sexually abused as children. The group will meet on Thursday afternoons/evenings for ten weeks. There is no cost, but participants must register. The start date will soon be determined (participants must call for more information).
Support groups allow room for survivors of violence to openly discuss what happened to them and how it continues to affect their lives. It also provides tools to process what they've survived.
“Many survivors feel hesitant to talk about their trauma with others,” says Program Manager Jessie Lazarchik. “They fear not being believed or facing judgment and blame. The support group offers a safe space for survivors to come together and process the impact of victimization without stigma.”
