Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center is starting a support group specifically for adults who were sexually abused as children. The group will meet on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for eight weeks, beginning October 30, 2018. There is no cost, but participants must register in advance.
Support groups allow room for survivors of violence to openly discuss what happened to them and how it continues to affect their lives. It also provides tools to process what they've survived.
"It’s extremely common for survivors of sexual abuse to wait years before ever coming forward,” says Program Manager Jessie Lazarchik. "The group is a setting where survivors can come together in a way that is safe, structured and supportive."
