The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program Coupons are now
available for qualified Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and
Children (WIC) participants. Pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women and
children ages one to five who are enrolled in the WIC Program can receive
coupons to purchase fresh Florida produce at the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program
(FMNP) WIC Clinic Market (224 SE 24th Street, Gainesville).
The market takes place in the main parking lot of the
Alachua County Health Department and operates on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
FMNP WIC Clinic Market allows WIC participants and the public to have access to
locally grown, farm fresh produce.
The Alachua WIC Program is very excited to have the
Farmers’ Market at the Alachua County Health Department. “We feel that having
the Farmers’ Market here will enhance health of nutritionally at risk
residents, promotes the use of the farmers’ market by WIC families and
low-income residents, encourages expanded and diversified fruit and vegetable
production here in Alachua County, and promotes the development of farmers’
markets as a component of sustainable, quality communities.” states Candi
Morris, Administrative Assistant with the Alachua WIC Program.
The market is open to all Alachua County residents.
Customers will be able to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables using
either their WIC/Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) Coupons, cash or
debit/credit card at the market.
