Alachua County Health Department’s Farmers Market Nutrition Program

This press release was published at the request of the Alachua County Health Department.

The Alachua County Health Department and the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is proud to announce that Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons are now available for qualified WIC participants. Starting April 15, 2022, pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women and children ages one to five who are enrolled in the WIC Program can receive coupons to purchase fresh Florida produce at the WIC sponsored Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). The market is located at 224 S.E. 24th Street, Gainesville. It takes place in the main parking lot of the Alachua County Health Department and operates on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. FMNP allows WIC participants and the public to have access to locally grown, farm-fresh produce.

The Alachua WIC Program is very excited to bring back the farmers’ market at the Alachua County Health Department. “We have listened to community feedback and have moved our market to a day and time of the week that is more accessible to our East Gainesville neighbors. Rather than it be on Friday mornings, the farmers’ market will be held on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will correspond with the weekday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. extended hours of the Health Department.” stated Candi Morris, Administrative Assistant with the Alachua WIC Program.

The market is open to the public. Customers are able to purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables using either their WIC/Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) coupons or cash. Nicoya Farms will be able to accept SNAP at their booth.
