The conference takes place from November 6 through 9, 2023. The Opening Ceremonies are on November 6 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Alachua County is pleased that, in recognition of outstanding contributions to fire prevention, Alachua County Fire Prevention Officer Silver "Chip" Ware will be honored as the State Fire Inspector of the Year during this year's conference.

The conference is the longest-running continual fire prevention conference in the United States. This milestone year also marks the conference's first time in Alachua County. The FFMIA conference serves as a gathering for fire prevention personnel statewide to discuss emerging trends and challenges in fire prevention.

The tradition dates back to 1947, when President Harry S. Truman convened a national fire prevention conference. Challenging all states to follow suit, Florida responded by hosting its inaugural conference in 1948 in Orlando. Since then, these conferences have been an annual event, contributing significantly to advancing fire prevention.
