The section of County Road 346 between S.W. 91st Street and Williston Road was closed on March 15, 2019, due to ground sinkage. On March 22, 2019, Alachua County Road and Bridge crews worked on undercutting the depression area and replacing the subbase to re-open the roadway later that afternoon. The road is now open. However, motorists should expect lane closures this week as crews place the final layer of asphalt to complete the repair.
County Engineering staff coordinated investigation efforts by having several deep and some shallow soil borings performed within the distressed area. These borings did not encounter weak, raveled soil conditions, or loss of drilling fluids that may have indicated sinkhole conditions.
