County Performance Management Program Recognized with Two Awards

Alachua County logoAlachua County is honored to announce that the Budget and Fiscal Services Department was recognized with two prestigious awards for its countywide Performance Management Program this year.

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) has recognized Alachua County with the 2020 Certificate of Excellence in Performance Management. The Certificate of Excellence is awarded to those agencies who attain the highest standards in performance management, leadership, and reporting.

According to the ICMA, “Performance management is a bedrock principle of professional local government management,” ICMA Executive Director Marc A. Ott said. “As COVID-19’s impact on our communities lingers on, we hope that by recognizing these leaders, we are encouraging others to measure how well their organization is performing and making a commitment to collect and analyze data, report it transparently, and use it to continuously engage their communities and improve their organizations during these unprecedented times.”

Certificates are awarded based upon established criteria in the following areas:

  • Reporting of performance data to the public
  • Data verification efforts to ensure data reliability
  • Use of performance data in strategic planning, process improvement, and operational decision making
  • Commitment to tracking and reporting key outcomes
  • Training, networking, surveying, and benchmarking

This is the sixth consecutive year that Alachua County has been awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Performance Management, which is the highest designation awarded.

Additionally, Alachua County was awarded the ‘Special Performance Measures Recognition’ by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the performance management information contained in the County’s Adopted Budget Document for the year beginning October 1, 2019. GFOA recognizes that performance measures are used by governments to collect information about operational activities, achievement of goals, community conditions, or other environmental factors to better understand a situation and make informed policy and budget decisions. The Alachua County Adopted Budget Document was rated as ‘Outstanding’ by three independent raters for the Performance Measures rating category.

Alachua County Manager Michele L. Lieberman said, “In these operationally challenging times, it is an honor to be recognized by two different national associations for programs run through our Budget and Fiscal Services Department. This is an affirmation that our county staff continue to provide outstanding services and operational transparency during unprecedented times.”

The 2020 ICMA Certificate of Excellence in Performance Management and GFOA Special Performance Measures Recognition awards will be presented to the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners at a later date.
