The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture Programs for February 2018. These programs are offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez, Commercial Horticulture Agent at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Avenue, Gainesville) unless otherwise indicated.
Economics of Hydroponic Vegetable Production – February 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Suwannee Valley Agricultural Extension Center (8202 CR 417, Live Oak). This workshop is led by UF Faculty and experienced growers.
Topics include building hydroponic crop budgets, estimating profitability of crop systems, using economic information for decision making, and assessing and managing risks. Attendees will tour greenhouses with hydroponic crop demonstrations.
Attendees should bring their own computer or tablet for use during the class (spreadsheet software is helpful, but not required).
The registration fee is $100.00 and includes lunch, refreshments, and class materials. Attendees can register online (with a $6.49 fee). Attendees can register by mail, by sending payment (checks payable to) University of Florida, 7580 CR 136, Live Oak, FL 32060. Attendees must register by February 6th.

Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance – February 22, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance Workshop trains commercial landscape maintenance personnel to make correct pesticide applications to ornamentals and plant beds only. Attendance to the full day is required before sitting for the license’s exam. The exam will be given at the end of the class for those who have registered.
Individuals seeking recertification may attend the class for 4 hours if pre-registered on Eventbrite. Participants must pre-register by February 19th. The registration fee is $30.00 per person (includes lunch). Participants must register online. There are no refunds for this program.
Up to six (6) CEU’s will be available in the following categories: 3 General Standard/Core (Chapters 482 and 487), 3 Ornamental & Turf, 3 Limited Lawn & Ornamental, 3 Limited Landscape Maintenance, 3 Commercial Lawn & Ornamental.
Those wanting to sit for the license exam, should sign up online (click on pest control, then click limited licenses). Exam participants are given a voucher number after they pay online. Participants must bring the printed receipt and voucher number the day of the class.

Green Industries Best Management Practices – February 27, from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Florida law states that all commercial fertilizer applicators must have a certificate from FDACS. To get this certificate, each commercial applicator must be trained in the GI-BMPs and receive a certificate of completion for UF/IFAS and FDEP. CEU’s will be available.
Participants must register online. The registration fee is $25 (includes lunch & class materials). Participants must pre-register by February 21st. There are no refunds for this program.
