Florida-Friendly Landscaping Code Webinar

The Alachua County Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County, and the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program invite Homeowner Association (HOA) representatives and homeowners that live in communities with HOAs to a live webinar on Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Attendees will learn about changes to Alachua County Codes, the nine principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping, and strategies for working together to install Florida-Friendly landscapes. The webinar is free, but participants must register online.

Alachua County adopted a Homeowner Association Florida-Friendly Landscaping Code in April 2019 to encourage resilient landscapes that reduce the need for frequent irrigation and the use of fertilizers and pesticides. Under this new section of the Water Quality Code, HOAs may not prohibit the implementation of Florida-Friendly Landscaping, and new covenants may not require the installation of irrigation.

For more information on the new code, visit the EPD's website or contact Stacie Greco at 352-264-6829 or  Sgreco@AlachuaCounty.us.
