The month of June marks the start of hurricane season. Hurricanes can be extremely dangerous and disruptive to the community. Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) would like to remind everyone to be prepared and stay alert in case of a hurricane.
To prepare for a hurricane, make an emergency plan that includes where you and your family will go in case of an evacuation. Know your evacuation zone and learn the route you will need to take. Review and create copies of personal and financial documents to keep on hand.
Gather essential supplies such as water, food, medication, a cell phone charger, and a backup battery (if applicable). Prepare your home by bringing in outside furniture and by considering hurricane shutters. For more important hurricane preparation information, visit

Those with special needs can sign up for the Special Needs Program. People who have a certain physical or medical condition or limitation and need daily assistance from a provider for personal care or need medication administration or treatment for stable conditions are qualifications for admission into a special needs shelter.
