March Agriculture and Natural Resources Programs

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Agriculture & Natural Resources programs for March 2023. Dr. Kevin Korus, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent, is offering these programs at the Alachua Ag Auditorium (22716 W. Newberry Road, Newberry) unless otherwise indicated.

North Florida Outdoor Expo – March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the University of Florida Austin Cary Forest (10625 N.E. Waldo Road, Gainesville)

UF/IFAS Extension presents the North Florida Outdoor Expo, a family fun event for outdoor enthusiasts, including hunters, fishermen, hikers, campers, water recreation, and anything in-between. The North Florida Outdoor Expo is the first of its kind in the Gainesville area.

Participants can visit vendors to find outdoor products and purchase them on location. This family fun event includes natural resource education, guided nature walks, and Florida history.

The registration fee is $5.00 (plus a $1.94 Eventbrite fee) per person. Participants must register online. Food trucks will be available on-site.

Private Applicator & Agricultural Row Crops – A Review – March 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with Dr. Tatiana Sanchez-Jones, Commercial Horticulture Agent)

This workshop is designed to provide training for the private applicator and agricultural row crop pest control license. The private applicator license is required for anyone applying restricted pesticide use to their own farm, greenhouse, or nursery. The class is until 1 p.m. If anyone decides to take the test, the participants can stay after 1 p.m.

New license: After the class concludes, exams will be available to attendees who need a license. Those who need to test should let the Extension office know (to reserve a spot). To test, please apply for a voucher number before the class.

Up to four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered for applicators that already have their licenses. CEUs available include General Standard Core, Ag Row Crop, and Private Applicator.  

The registration fee is $25.00 (includes handout materials and light refreshments). Participants must register online by March 26. A late fee of $10.00 will be applied for registrations after March 26 or if paying at the door. This class is limited to 20 participants. There are no refunds for the registration fee.
