The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Commercial Horticulture programs for March 2024. These programs are being offered by Dr. Tatiana Sanchez-Jones, Commercial Horticulture Agent.
Private Applicator & Agricultural Row Crops – A Review – March 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with Dr. Kevin Korus, Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent), at the Alachua County Ag Auditorium (22716 W. Newberry Road, Newberry)
This workshop is designed to provide training for the private applicator and the agricultural row crop pest control licenses. The private applicator license is required for anyone who applies restricted use pesticides to their farm, greenhouse, or nursery. The class is until 1 p.m. If anyone decides to take the test, the participants can stay after 1 p.m.
New license: After the class concludes, exams will be available to attendees who need a license. Let the Extension office know if you need to test to reserve your spot. To test, please apply for a
voucher number before the class.
Up to four Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered for applicators who already have their licenses. CEUs available include General Standard Core, Ag Row Crop, and Private Applicator.
The registration fee of $25.00 (plus $3.52 Eventbrite fee) includes handout materials and light refreshments. Participants must
register online by March 18. The registration fee after March 18 or if paying at the door will be $35.00 (plus a $4.19 Eventbrite fee). This class is limited to ten participants. There are no refunds for the registration fees.
Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance Workshop – March 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (license renewal 8:30 a.m. to noon), at the UF/IFAS Extension Columbia County (437 NW Hall of Fame Drive, Lake City)
This is a review class for the Limited Landscape Maintenance License. Participants should study before attending the workshop if they are planning to take the exam. The class is from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and exams will be available immediately following the workshop at 3 p.m.
Those wanting to take the exam following the class must
apply online. Click on residential pest control and then “Exam SignUp.” Participants can pay online, and then they will be given a voucher number. Please bring the printed receipt and voucher number to take the exam. Books are not provided but can be pre-ordered
online. It is recommended that the attendee studies before testing as the workshop is a review. Books required are SM 1, SP 499, and SM 82.
Individuals seeking recertification may attend the class for four hours. Up to six Continuing Education Units will be available in the following categories: three General Standard Core, three Ornamental & Turf, three Lawn & Ornamental, three Limited Lawn & Ornamental, three Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance, three Private Applicator, and three Right-Of-Way or two General Standard Core, two Ornamental & Turf, two Lawn & Ornamental, two Limited Lawn & Ornamental, two Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance, two Private Applicator, and two Right-Of-Way.
The registration fee of $30.00 (plus $3.85 Eventbrite fee) will include lunch and materials. Participants must
register online by March 21. The registration fee after March 21 or if paying at the door will be $40.00 (plus a $4.52 Eventbrite fee). There are no refunds for the registration fees.
