The Alachua County Children’s Services Advisory Board and Healthy Start of North Central FL, Inc. are hosting the NewboRN Nurse Home Visit Program Kick-Off on Saturday, March 17, 2018, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Alachua County Public School District Office (620 E. University Ave, Gainesville).
Event activities include Baby (6-12 months) and Junior (1-2 years) Olympics, safety demonstrations for car seats and safe sleeping, a bicycle rodeo (children are encouraged to bring their bicycles), face painting, raffles, WIC information and sign up, and the Alachua County Health Department will offer immunizations.
The focus of the NewboRN Nurse Home Visit Program is to arrange visits by a Registered Nurse or Certified Nurse Midwife to assess the physical, social, and emotional health of mothers and babies. The visit also provides guidance on issues such as family bonding, breastfeeding, healthy sleeping habits, infant safety (car seats, pool safety, etc.), and infant growth and development. A key component of this visit will be early identification of needs and referrals for appropriate services. This program will be available to every new mother in Alachua County if she chooses to participate.
The Alachua County Commission created the Children’s Services Advisory Board with the overarching goal to assure all Alachua County Children are ready to enter kindergarten. The NewboRN Nurse Home Visit Program advances this mission.
