The Alachua County Parks and Conservation Lands Department, Alachua County Forever Program is hosting a public meeting on Thursday, July 18, 2019, to discuss plans for initial public access to Four Creeks Preserve. The meeting is from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Youth Building of Trinity United Methodist Church (4000 N.W. 53rd Ave., Gainesville).

The preserve is scheduled to open to public access on September 28, 2019. This public meeting will provide citizens the opportunity to learn about the initial plans for public access and trail location, as well as land management strategies.
Four Creeks Preserve is a 715-acre nature preserve located in northwest Gainesville, between U.S. Highway 441 and N.E. 43rd Street. The preserve was purchased jointly by Alachua County and the City of Gainesville on September 25, 2018. The County’s 470-acre portion is the first property acquired through the Alachua County Forever program using funds from the citizen-supported Wild Spaces Public Places sales tax passed by voters in 2016. Under the terms of the deal, The City of Gainesville purchased the southwestern 245 acres using the City’s tree mitigation fund. Staff from Alachua County Forever and the City of Gainesville will coordinate management of the preserve.

The preserve was acquired to protect, preserve, and enhance the unique natural and cultural resources found on the property and to provide an enjoyable and educational resource-based recreational experience.
While a long-term management plan for the property is still being developed, information about the preserve can be found at the Four Creeks preserve website.
