Reminder: Alachua County to Hold Televised Online Forum Today on the Future of the Fairgrounds Redevelopment Area

Alachua County will hold an online forum on the future of the Fairgrounds Redevelopment Area today, Monday, March 23, at 5 p.m. Due to ongoing concerns posed by COVID-19, this event will not be open for public attendance. However, it will be cablecast live on Cox Cable Channel 12 and streamed live on the County’s Video on Demand and Facebook page.

There is a significant economic opportunity to host a US Army Equipment Concentration Site (ECS) at the old Fairgrounds Site on the corner of Waldo Road and N.E. 39th Avenue.  An ECS provides for the storage and maintenance of generators, trucks, and other public works-type and non-combat vehicles. Maintenance facilities are typically state of the art and offer opportunities for vocational and trade-school jobs.

Presenters, including representatives from the US Army Reserve 81st Regional Support Command and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Economic Impact Analysis Program, will be available to provide greater detail on the operations and expanded economic impact of an ECS.

Questions from the public are encouraged and may be submitted in advance to smclendon@alachuacounty.us or through Facebook Live during the event.
