The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office is pleased to announce the following Family and Consumer Sciences program for September 2018. This program is offered by Martha B. Maddox, County Extension Agent IV, at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (2800 N.E. 39th Avenue, Gainesville).
Fresh Start – September 5, from 10 a.m. to noon, and repeated again from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Those with a financial history that includes bounced checks or overdrawn funds should consider the Fresh Start program. Fresh Start helps participants get their finances back on track, develop healthier financial patterns, and open an account with a new bank or credit union. At the end of the course, those who pass a financial management test earn a certificate to open an account with a bank or credit union participating in the Fresh Start program.
Fresh Start covers the basics of financial management, from creating a spending plan to preventing identity theft. Attendees also get hands on practice balancing a checkbook and mapping out a personal budget. The program goal is to help people make a habit of knowing where their money is going.
The registration fee is $25.00, and there are two options to register. Participants can register by mail by completing an application, and mailing it with money order to:
