Alachua County Veteran Services and the North Florida South Georgia Veterans Health System invite residents to the “Vietnam Veterans Tribute” in Alachua County on Saturday, March 30, 2019. This event starts with a “Tribute Ride” from the Gainesville VA Medical Center (1601 S.W. Archer Road, Gainesville) at 9:30 a.m. Registered motorcycle riders and patriotic vehicles will be escorted down Archer Road through South Gainesville to the Veterans Memorial Park (7400 S.W. 41st Place, Gainesville). The tribute will continue with a formal program beginning at 11 a.m. (located toward the back of the park). Additional parking is located at Wiles Elementary School and Kanapaha Middle School (walking distance to the park). There will be a bus running between the parking areas and the park for those with limited abilities to walk.
Many veteran organizations and supporting area groups will be onsite to pay tribute to Vietnam Veterans. There will be food trucks, speakers and live music by Joey Holiday. There will be a Vietnam Traveling Wall (1/5 Scale) and a Virtual Vietnam Veterans Wall Exhibit inside the Freedom Center. There will be the Virtual Vietnam Wall Exhibit, where participants can look up names of service on the Washington Vietnam Wall who lost their lives in Vietnam.
Alachua County Veteran Services Director, United States Navy Veteran, and former Florida Army National Guardsmen Kim Davis stated, “This event is presented to honor and pay tribute to our Vietnam Veterans. We welcome all Veterans, their families and those who wish to pay tribute to our Vietnam Veterans to come.”
